Matt Hirschman Holds Off Ryan Preece in Spring Sizzler
Apr 25, 2022
The Camping World SRX Series held its first race at Stafford Speedway last year. This Saturday, they return to the Connecticut half-mile for round three of the 2022 season.
Entering Stafford, Ryan Newman leads the points standings with top-five Main Event finishes at both Five Flags Speedway and South Boston Speedway. Bobby Labonte is second, followed by South Boston winner Tony Stewart.
One year ago, six-time NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby sent the Stafford crowd into a frenzy, winning as the local hero against the superstar roster that travels with SRX throughout the season. This year, another Modified standout, Matt Hirschman, looks to provide an encore.
Hirschman earned the right to compete in Saturday's race by winning the 50th Spring Sizzler at Stafford earlier this year. He held off Ryan Preece for the victory in the marquee Modified event.

At Five Flags, Helio Castroneves made a surprise appearance and took the victory. Coincidentally, SRX announced last week that Castroneves would be unable to appear at Stafford. His replacement will be Justin Marks, owner of Trackhouse Racing Team and a former winner in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship.
Hailie Deegan will also make her first SRX start of the season. Deegan is currently slated to compete at Stafford, as well as Federated Auto Parts Raceway at I-55 later this season.
Grandstand gates will open at Noon on Saturday, with a pit party taking place at 3-4 p.m. Racing will begin at 4:45 p.m., with a Last Chance Qualifier for the RaceChoice.com SK Modified® Showdown. The RaceChoice.com SK Modified® Showdown will precede the SRX portion of the event, scheduled to start at 8 p.m.
