Cody Stickler scored his third straight Modifieds of Mayhem Snowball Derby 75 win on Friday night to wrap up a championship season.
Cody Stickler’s dominance in the Modifieds of Mayhem, particularly at Five Flags Speedway, continued Friday night. With his third straight win in the Modifieds of Mayhem Snowball Derby 75, Stickler pocketed $8,000.
Stickler started at the rear of the 24-car field, seeking a $5,000 bonus from Phoenix Water Solutions if he could win from that position. Stickler successfully avoided an opening-lap melee, then took the lead within the first 35 laps en route to the victory.
“It’s that guy back there, Johnny Sarppraicone,” said Stickler in victory lane. “It makes it fun when you have a car that fast, you can put it wherever you want and do whatever you want.
“Anything can happen starting back there, just like that first lap incident. Luckily, we didn’t get caught up in that. We definitely second-guessed it, but after a few of those front cars got wrecked out, it made it a little easier.”
The win sealed Stickler’s 2023 championship season with the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour, marking his seventh victory on the year with the series. Stickler has now won in his last seven Modifieds of Mayhem Tour starts at Five Flags Speedway dating back to 2021.
After several back-and-forth battles, Tony Bromley took the win in the inaugural Story & Bleich Crown Stock Invitational. The race featured top performers from the Crown Stock Derby 40 at the Snowball Derby Preview and throughout the season at Five Flags Speedway.
It was an exciting moment for the Jacksonville native who made the trip to Pensacola to take part in Snowball Derby weekend.
“I have no words right now, man. We have no race tracks in Jacksonville. Our closest one on asphalt is New Smyrna. I’ve got no words for this. It’s unbelievable. What a crowd, what a show. This is great.”
Racing continues on Saturday at Five Flags Speedway with a pair of features, headlined by the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 for Pro Late Models. The Faith Chapel Outlaws will also be on track as part of Saturday's program, as well as the always-exciting Snowball Derby Last Chance Qualifier to set the field for Sunday's Snowball Derby.
