Snowball Derby Rewind: December 1
While the Snowball Derby has never been held on December 1, there have been some exciting Snowflake moments on this day.
Each day during our Snowball Derby coverage this week, we will look back on significant Snowball Derby moments that have taken place during the event's history. Today, we look at memorable races on December 1 during the Snowball Derby week.
The Snowball Derby has never been run on the December 1, but the Snowflake 100 has been.
Stanley Smith led 98 of 100 laps in 2001 to win the Snowflake 100. At the time, the Snowflake was not yet a crate Late Model race and Smith would later run the Snowball Derby that same weekend. Smith would lead laps on Sunday, but finished 31st.

In 2007, Ryan Crane from Panama City, Florida bested a deep field of 68 Pro Late Models to win the Snowflake 100. Michael Pope was second and Augie Grill was third in a wild race that ran past midnight.

Chase Elliott captured his second Allen Turner Snowflake 100 in 2012 after leading 47 laps and starting second. Elliott would hold off Mike Garvey and Kyle Benjamin for the victory.
