Following a disqualification for Steven Davis, Kaden Honeycutt was declared the winner of the Gulf Real Estate Group Pro Truck Snowball Derby feature at Five Flags Speedway on Thursday night.
Kaden Honeycutt's busy week at the 57th Annual Snowball Derby is off to a strong start.
Honeycutt crossed the finish line in the second position behind Steven Davis in the Gulf Real Estate Pro Truck feature on Thursday night, the first of four divisions Honeycutt is racing in this weekend at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida.
However, Davis was disqualified in post-race technical inspection, turning the victory over to Honeycutt in the 50-lap race.
Honeycutt will be racing every night of this weekend. He will compete with the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour on Friday night, as well as in the Allen Turner Snowflake 100 on Saturday night before the Snowball Derby on Sunday.
Honeycutt finished in the top 10 in both Snowball Derby practice sessions on Thursday, as well as the lone Snowflake 100 practice before rain halted practice activity at the famed half-mile.
In November, Honeycutt set fast time in the Snowball Derby Preview in the Super Late Models, Pro Late Models and Pro Trucks.
Jared Maupin is now credited with second place, followed by Grant Thompson, Seth Christensen and Maddox Langham.
Chad Robinson scored his elusive first Snowball Derby win with the Dock of Pensacola Beach Sportsman division.
"I've been trying to win this race for, God, I don't know, it's over 10 years," said Robinson. "It's always something. I've finished second a couple of times, third, it just always seems to bite me. I think I've got the monkey off my back now.
"This race is my nemesis. I can have a spectacular year and come over here and something happens. It feels really good to finally get one in the bag."
Maddox Langham finished second, with James Patrick finishing third after winning one year ago. Brannon Fowler and Daryl McDonald, III completed the top five.
Mason Johnston closed out the night by winning the 35-lap feature for the Lloyd's Glass Pure Stocks. His post-race interview made it evident how important a Snowball Derby win can be, no matter what division.
"This is the biggest race of most people's career," said Johnston. "I've dreamed of winning one of these since I was a little kid. My grandpa won one 11 years ago. I'm glad I'm going to get to hang my Snowball Derby flag next to his."
Adam Salter finished second in the Pure Stocks, followed by Butch Harvell, Cameron Laythem and Sean Barnes.
Friday brings two more feature races, including the Modifieds of Mayhem season finale and the Story & Bleich Crown Stock Invitational. Before racing takes place on Friday night at Five Flags, Snowball Derby Super Late Model teams will compete against the clock for pole position and one of 30 spots in the starting lineup for the 57th Annual Snowball Derby.
Snowball Derby qualifying begins at 6 p.m. CT, with feature racing scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m. CT.
