Qualifying Results: Ty Majeski Claims Pole for 57th Annual Snowball Derby
Dec 7, 2024
Cody Stickler continued his dominance of the Snowball Derby Modifieds of Mayhem Tour feature, winning the event for the fourth season in a row.
Stickler took the lead five laps into the 75-lap feature and held the top spot the rest of the way in a dominant performance, befitting of his current streak in the event.
Stickler now has 15 career Modifieds of Mayhem Tour victories, going a perfect three-for-three in his appearances with the series in 2024.
"A few years back, four or five years back, I was coming here trying to just get a win," said Stickler in victory lane. "To come back now, four in a row, it feels great. It feels really good.
"I can't thank Johnny [Sarppraicone] enough at RRD for the fast race cars, anywhere we go. It makes it easy on me. Doug and Kim Moff, they keep this program rolling, give us everything we need to run up front and do what we do. Steve Hibbert, he does all of our shock work, he does a lot back home for us. Matt, Tim, all these guys bust their butt on this car all the time."
Kyle Purvis, winner of the Run for the Gun 50 at Winchester Speedway, added a second-place finish in the Snowball Derby Modifieds feature.
"I just want to thank all the fans for coming out," said Purvis. "Everybody behind this race car that put this deal together, my wife for letting me go race. My dad and Chad and David Carter for coming down for the last week and a half after Thanksgiving to prep this thing.
"We struggle to qualify down here, but we always have a good race piece. We had a good hot rod, just not as good as they were."
Kevin Peel rounded out the podium, giving him a pair of top-five finishes to close out the 2024 Modifieds of Mayhem season. These strong runs give him confidence entering the offseason.
"We rebooted our program a little bit, help from Derrick [Griffin] and DG Race Cars. These things are fast. Anybody that gets in them, they just turn, they're real fast.
"That's pretty good after the last few years that we've had. Maybe we've turned the other shoe here, or whatever you call it. Maybe we're getting back on track."
The 75-lap race saw plenty of attrition and calamity, and the drivers contending for the Modifieds of Mayhem Tour championship were not immune to that. When the dust settled, Jaxon Bishop - despite falling out of the race after an incident near the halfway point - took home the series title.
"I have a lot to say on this whole deal, but I've got to thank Mike Hamlin first," said Bishop, clearly still disappointed with the on-track incident. "He gives me a great car to drive. R&R Machine, Port City Race Cars, RPI Suspension, Full Throttle Race Parts the list goes on.
"I got straight-lined on purpose. It's a real shame that anybody in racing can be okay with that. We put together a good effort all year.
"I'm forever grateful for all of these opportunities and super excited for next year."
Adam Salter won the Story & Bleich Crown Stock Invitational to close out Friday's racing program, taking the checkered flag in the 25-lap feature for the track's top Crown Stock competitors.
Salter finished second in the Pure Stock feature on Thursday night, but improved by one stop with an impressive victory on Friday, finishing more than six seconds ahead of second-place Braeden Kitchen piloting the No. 6 normally driven by his brother Chris.
"I just wish we got his lucky [last night]. It was fun all week, all weekend.
"I'd say the most winning one is my brother. This is his car. I came to run it tonight. I won at the Freedom Factory with it. It was hooked up. We got tossed last weekend for the rotors, so I had to show everybody tonight those brake rotors didn't make it that fast."
While Salter distanced himself from the field, Kitchen had a thrilling battle with Hunter Lambert for the second spot all the way to the checkered flag.
"We had a little accident at the beginning of the race, got put in the outside wall, but that ain't no problem," said Kitchen. "I had a blast. Me and Hunter, the last five laps, I feel like that was the perfect race. I hope y'all enjoyed it."
"I had a blast out there," echoed Lambert. "It's always good racing with somebody when they race you clean. Me and Braeden had a really good race going there. I just got way too loose there at the end."
Doug Thorpe finished fourth, with Ryan Maxwell completing the top five.
On-track activity begins at 10 a.m. CT Saturday at Five Flags Speedway with Allen Turner Snowflake 100 practice. The Allen Turner Snowflake 100 and Faith Chapel Outlaw 50 headline Saturday's feature racing program, starting at 7 p.m. CT.
Prior to those races, the Last Chance Qualifiers for both the Snowflake 100 and 57th Annual Snowball Derby hit the track following Snowflake 100 qualifying, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. CT.
