Race Results: 2025 NASCAR Cup Series Duels at Daytona
Bubba Wallace and Austin Cindric claimed wins in the Duels at Daytona on Thursday night at Daytona International Speedway, while Justin Allgaier and Corey LaJoie raced their way into Sunday's Daytona 500.
Thursday's Duels at Daytona set the fields for the Daytona 500 on Sunday afternoon, and determined which of nine open drivers will take part in this year's "Great American Race."
In the first Duel, Bubba Wallace surged to the win ahead of William Byron and Ty Dillon. Further back, Justin Allgaier finished ninth to earn his spot in the Daytona 500 as the highest-finishing open competitor. With Allgaier's win, Martin Truex, Jr. fell back on his qualifying time from Wednesday evening to secure his place in the Daytona 500.
Helio Castroneves was involved in a multi-car incident after 13 laps, and will fall back on the Open Exemption Provisional and start 41st for the Daytona 500. Chandler Smith was also involved in that incident, ending his hopes of making the Daytona 500 in the Garage 66 Ford.
The second duel ended with Austin Cindric narrowly ahead of Erik Jones when the caution flag flew just shy of the finish line on the final lap for a multi-car incident behind them. Corey LaJoie, credited with sixth-place in the running order, was the highest-finishing open competitor, with Jimmie Johnson falling back on his qualifying time.
