NASCAR and Speedway Motorsports announced the details for the 2025 All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. A new Manufacturer Showdown, a Promoter's Caution, modifications to Open Qualifying and Pit Crew Challenge eligibility and a longer All-Star Race are among the changes for this year.
The Manufacturer Showdown is the biggest addition to the All-Star Race. Each of the three manufacturers will be equally represented in the field. The drivers representing each manufacturer in the Manufacturer Showdown, with the number of representatives determined by the manufacturer with the fewest representatives in the All-Star Race field. Representatives will be selected based on their All-Star Race starting positions.
Manufacturers will be scored against each other and not by their overall All-Star finish. The combined total of finishing positions will determine the winning manufacturer. In the event of a tie, the single best overall finishing position among
Those starting positions will once again be determined in a unique qualifying session, where drivers will compete three on-track laps with a pit stop included. The driver with the fastest qualifying time will start on the pole for Heat Race 1 and the All-Star.
The All-Star Race will be 250 laps, 50 laps longer than the 2024 edition. There will be a competition break at or around lap 100. There is also the potential for a Promoter's Caution.
The Promoter's Caution must be executed before lap 220. If it hasn't been utilized and a caution occurs after lap 200, it will no longer be available for use.
The two All-Star Heat Races will be 60 laps each, with one overtime attempt permitted if needed. The All-Star Open will be 100 laps with one overtime attempt allowed. That race will have a competition break at or around lap 40. The top two finishers and the fan-vote winner will advance to the All-Star Race.
The pit stop times during All-Star qualifying will once again compose the Pit Crew Challenge. The team with the fastest pit stop time without any penalties will be crowned the winner of the Pit Crew Challenge. This year, All-Star Open teams will be eligible for the Pit Crew Challenge, not just All-Star Race participants.
“In the 40-year history of the All-Star Race there has never been so much on-track action across the entire event week,” said Jessica Fickenscher, executive director of the NASCAR All-Star Race. “And with so much competition--from the pit crews to the manufacturers to the race teams and drivers--the biggest All-Star winners will be the fans with all they get to see at what’s become America’s throwback racetrack, North Wilkesboro Speedway. The entire week is truly the most jam-packed entertainment value in all of motorsports.”
The NASCAR All-Star Race will air live on FS1, MRN Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, with coverage beginning at 5:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 18.
