Kaulig Racing is bringing in a ringer for the upcoming Bristol Dirt Race, announcing on Thursday that Jonathan Davenport will drive the No. 13 Nutrien Ag Solutions Chevrolet.
A Georgia native, Davenport is one of the toughest competitors when it comes to super dirt late model racing, earning 24 wins in 81 races entered during the 2022 season, including the $1,002,022 'Eldora Million' Winner at Eldora Speedway.
This will be Davenport's first attempt at a NASCAR Cup Series event.
Kaulig Racing team president Chris Rice believes Davenport's extensive knowledge and success on dirt will pay off for everyone within the organization. Davenport was the 2022 XR Super Series champion and has won on the Bristol dirt on two occasions, in 2021 and 2022.
“Jonathan Davenport is an all time favorite of mine because of how well he has done in his dirt racing career," said team president Chris Rice. "I’m super excited to have his side of dirt racing intermix with NASCAR and see what he can do in one of our Kaulig Racing Chevrolets. He’s a great guy, a great racer and we’re looking forward to making our relationship with Nutrien Ag Solutions deeper.”
This is literally a dream come true for me. I’ll get to race against the best race car drivers in the world and will get to do it at one of my favorite tracks (Bristol Motor Speedway).
“I have a lot to learn but have two great teammates in AJ (Allmendinger) and Justin (Haley) to learn from," said Davenport. "We started working on this last October during the ROVAL weekend in Charlotte and to see it come to fruition is absolutely amazing.”
Haley, who finished 14th in the 2022 Bristol Dirt Race, expressed his excitement in having Davenport on his side heading into the event.
