Denny Hamlin and Joe Gibbs Racing is throwing back to Carl Edwards at this year's Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway.
Joe Gibbs Racing unveiled the throwback Tuesday evening, a black and red No. 11 Toyota sponsored by Sport Clips. The car is stylized to resemble Carl Edwards' Office Depot-sponsored cars from early in his NASCAR Cup Series career driving for Roush Racing.
Edwards broke into the Cup Series with the team now known as RFK Racing, racing with the team from 2005 to 2014. Edwards then spent two seasons driving the No. 19 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing before his retirement following the 2016 season. In 2015 with Joe Gibbs Racing, Edwards won the Coca-Cola 600 and the Southern 500, adding two of the sport's crown jewels to his resume.
The Columbia, Missouri native won 28 NASCAR Cup Series events, finishing second in the championship standings in 2008 and 2011. Edwards was named one of NASCAR's 75 Greatest Drivers during the sanctioning body's 75th anniversary celebration in 2023, and was inducted to the NASCAR Hall of Fame this year.
Edwards will be part of Prime Video's NASCAR Cup Series broadcast team this year. He will join Corey LaJoie and Danielle Trotta for Prime Videos' pre-race and post-race coverage in the service's first year of broadcasting Cup Series events.
Hamlin joined Joe Gibbs Racing and the NASCAR Cup Series full-time in 2006, one year after Edwards' rookie campaign. Hamlin is a 54-time race winner, including three Daytona 500 wins, three Southern 500 wins and the 2022 Coca-Cola 600.
The Chesterfield, Virginia driver will be seeking his fifth career win at Darlington in the Goodyear 400. A fifth win at Darlington would tie him with Bobby Allison, Bill Elliott, Darrell Waltrip and Cale Yarborough for fourth all-time in the track's history with NASCAR's premier series.
The Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway is scheduled for Sunday, April 6, at 3:00 p.m. ET. Live coverage will air on FOX Sports 1 and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
