Erik Jones Transported to Local Hospital after Hard Crash at Talladega

Erik Jones, the driver of the No. 43 LEGACY MOTOR CLUB Toyota Camry XSE, has been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation following a hard crash in Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

The 27-year-old was checked and released from the infield care center, but following the initial visit, Jones returned to the care center, where the decision was made to send Jones to the hospital for additional care.

Following his initial check up in the infield care center, Jones admitted that he was suffering from soreness in his back.

"I'm sore, it just really stretched it out a lot," Jones explained. "So, it'll be a long week, just trying to get recovered and feeling better for next week. But I'm alright."

A couple of hours later, NASCAR shared the official update of Jones' status to social media.

Jones was among a single-file line of Toyota drivers, who had just made their final pit stops, when he got loose following a bump draft from Bubba Wallace heading into Turn 3 on Lap 155. After the contact caused him to wiggle out of line, Wallace and Jones made contact again, which sent Jones hard into the outside wall.

The crash ended the day for Jones, Wallace, and Denny Hamlin.

At the time of the crash, Jones radioed that he was experiencing discomfort in his back, but was able to climb from the car.
