Daniel Suarez to Drop to Rear, Serve Pass Through Penalty at Talladega

A little bit of self-inflicted adversity has been dealt to Daniel Suarez and the No. 99 Trackhouse Racing team ahead of Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.

The driver, who is one of the 12 drivers that remain inside of the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, will have to drop to the rear of the field prior to the start of Sunday's race, and he'll have to serve a pass-through penalty after taking the green flag, and his car chief has been ejected for the remainder of the race weekend.

Suarez was set to start from the 31st position, so he won't lose much ground in the running order, but without drafting help, Suarez will likely need the help of an early caution to remain on the lead lap in the YellaWood 500.

According to NASCAR, Suarez's No. 99 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was found to have an adjustment to the roof area of the vehicle following Saturday's inspection period. NASCAR says the penalties stemming from the roof issue will remain the at-track assessed penalties, meaning the Playoff driver will not have to worry about a mid-week points penalty due to the post-inspection adjustment made to his car.

Suarez enters the race as the 10th driver in the 12-driver Playoff Standings, and he sits 14 points behind the Playoff cutline heading into the YellaWood 500, which is the second of three races in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Round of 12.
