NTT INDYCAR Series star Conor Daly is the latest driver to announce his intentions of competing in this year’s Daytona 500, attempting to make the race in The Money Team Racing’s No. 50 Chevrolet with backing from sponsor Bitnile.com.
“To have a chance to try and qualify for the Daytona 500 is an incredible opportunity! A monumental challenge against some great drivers and teams with no practice but we will give it our best shot,” Daly said via his Twitter account Tuesday morning.
Daly is now the sixth open car that will attempt to make the 65th running of the Daytona 500. This will be The Money Team Racing’s second attempt at the ‘Great American Race,’ last year finishing 25th with Kaz Grala behind the wheel.
While a veteran of INDYCAR, Daly has had his eyes set on NASCAR over the past few seasons. The Indiana native has one NASCAR Cup Series start to his credit, finishing 34th for The Money Team Racing at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval in October 2022.
Daly also has one NASCAR Xfinity Series start and two NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series starts under his belt.
Tuesday’s announcement brought the number of open cars attempting to make the Daytona 500 to six. Daly now joins Austin Hill (Beard Motorsports), Jimmie Johnson (Legacy Motor Club), Travis Pastrana (23XI Racing), Chandler Smith (Kaulig Racing), and Zane Smith (Front Row Motorsports) as drivers hoping to race their way into the event.
