Another strong field of Tour Modified competitors is expected for Turkey Derby 51, the annual Thanksgiving weekend tradition at the famed Wall Stadium Speedway in New Jersey.
Currently, 27 teams are entered for Saturday's 150-lap Tour Modified feature. A field of 24 cars will start the $15,000-to-win main event.
Atop the entry list are three former Turkey Derby winners, including the two most successful drivers in the history of the event that started in 1974. Matt Hirschman scored his eighth Turkey Derby victory one year ago and seeks a ninth win on Saturday. Meanwhile, Jimmy Blewett is a seven-time Turkey Derby winner, and the only driver other than Hirschman to win the event since 2018.
Dave Sapienza, the winner of the 2018 Turkey Derby, rounds out the list of former winners entered for this weekend.
There are also several top-notch Modified drivers seeking their first Turkey Derby win. Last year, Stephen Kopcik finished second to Hirschman with Patrick Emerling rounding out the podium. Both of those competitors return looking to move to the top step of the podium in 2024.
Andrew Krause has finished second in the Turkey Derby four times in his career. Recently crowned as the 2024 Modified track champion at Wall Stadium Speedway, Krause is also seeking his first Turkey Derby win.
The next generation of Modified stars is also eager to leave its mark on the Turkey Derby record books. Competitors such as Luke Baldwin, Jack Baldwin, and Carsten DiGiantomasso are making their Turkey Derby debuts. Austin Beers hopes to follow up on a top-10 finish in his first Turkey Derby one year ago.
These are just some of the drivers capable of competing for the win Saturday. The full entry list for the Tour Modified feature can be viewed below.
Many of Saturday's Tour Modified competitors are also taking part in the Wall Modified 100-lap feature on Friday, November 29 to kick off Turkey Derby 51 weekend. Among the drivers attempting double-duty are Hirschman, Blewett, Krause, Carsten DiGiantomasso, Eddie McCarthy, Blake Barney, Tom Martino, Jr., and Steven Reed.
