Cup Weekend Wrap
With the second portion of the 51st Icebreaker set to go green Wednesday, April 16, American-Canadian Tour and Pro All Stars Series officials have chosen to remove the Sunoco 604 Modifieds from the Northeast Classic
With weather having rearranged several plans for both the Thompson Speedway Icebreaker season opener and the Northeast Classic showcase at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, an unfortunate casualty has occurred. With the second portion of the 51st Icebreaker set to go green Wednesday night, April 16, both American-Canadian Tour (ACT) and Pro All Stars Series (PASS) officials have chosen to remove the Sunoco 604 Modifieds from the Northeast Classic, now scheduled for Friday Practice Day on Friday, April 18 and race day on Saturday, April 19.
The Sunoco 604 Modifieds are already hot and heavy into their sophomore season at Thompson Speedway, with inaugural champion Jon Puleo back to his winning ways in a thrilling battle with Todd Owen at the end. The Sunoco 604 Modifieds are set to continue their Icebreaker doubleheader on Wednesday night alongside the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Icebreaker 150 on April 16.
Unfortunately, the quick turnaround from Thompson Speedway on Wednesday night to New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s Magic Mile for Friday practice day and the Northeast Classic on Saturday is too much to ensure a thrilling showcase during both marquee events.
“We didn’t want to force teams to try and make both big events, especially this early in the year,” said PASS President Tom Mayberry. “While the Sunoco 604 Modifieds won’t be at New Hampshire, we have some other plans in the works to continue building this division, starting this Wednesday at Thompson.”
The 5th annual Northeast Classic will go green on Saturday, April 19 with an 11:00am Post Time at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The Northeast Classic is headlined by the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour and the PASS Super Late Models, along with the ground-pounding Open Tour-type Modifieds, R&R Open Street Stock Series and the Pro Truck Challenge Series!
