Wright Wins, Jones Disqualified on PLM Night #1 for New Smyrna World Series

Hunter Wright took the win in the first Pro Late Model feature of the 59th World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, following a disqualification of Conner Jones in post-race technical inspection for carburetor discrepancies

Jones took the lead from Max Reaves on lap 37 of the 59-lap event, crossing the line ahead of Wright and Jimmy Renfrew, Jr. However, the disqualification turned the victory over to Wright, last year's World Series of Asphalt champion in the Pro Late Model division.

Wright also won on Night #5 of the 2024 World Series of Asphalt after a disqualification. On that evening, Renfrew took the checkered flag but was disqualified post-race.

Reaves finished third officially behind Wright and Renfrew. Alex Labbe finished fourth, with Brody Monahan rounding out the top five.

Jones' disqualification was the second on opening night for a race-winning driver. William Sawalich crossed the finish line first in the 59-lap Super Late Model feature to kick off the 59th World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. However, his entry exceeded maximum tread width during technical inspection, giving the victory to Carson Brown.

The Pro Late Models race again on Saturday for Night #2 of the World Series of Asphalt. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour headlines Saturday's card with its 200-lap season opener.
