The lineage of the Alabama 200 began on September 18, 1960, when Crash Bond won a 100-lap event at Montgomery Motor Speedway. While what is now known as the Alabama 200 has had many different looks over the years, it remains one of the most prestigious and historic events in the proud tradition of Alabama short track racing.
At one point, the Alabama 200 was even a stop on the NASCAR Grand National Series (now NASCAR Cup Series) calendar. Richard Petty won the 1967 Alabama 200, while Bobby Allison took top honors in 1968.
The first Pro Late Model Alabama 200 took place in 2009, with Augie Grill winning the first of three consecutive runnings in the event.
In 2013, the race switched to Super Late Models under the Southern Super Series banner, and Chase Elliott joined the list of Alabama 200 winners. He'd win again in 2015, with Anderson Bowen and Donnie Wilson also scoring Alabama 200 wins with the Southern Super Series.
In 2017, the race returned to a Pro Late Model contest, traditionally the season opener for the Show Me the Money Series. Casey Roderick won in 2017 and 2018, followed by Grill (2019), Jake Garcia (2020), Tullis (2021), Hunter Robbins (2022) and Seth Christensen (2023) before Roderick returned to victory lane in 2024.
