Thunder Road officials are proud to announce today that a deal has been struck for the continued partnership with the Vermont Lottery through the next three seasons. The Vermont Lottery will continue as title sponsor for the fan-favorite Vermont Governor’s Cup 150 through 2027 at the Nation’s Site of Excitement as the iconic event celebrates its 46th, 47th and 48th editions high atop Quarry Hill!

The Vermont Lottery was established in 1977, and its profits originally contributed to the Vermont General Fund. In 1998, revenue from the Vermont Lottery was shifted toward the Education Fund, which continues to this day. One of the smallest state lotteries in the United States, the Vermont Lottery’s commitment to both responsible gambling and the State Education Fund are at the forefront.

The Vermont Governor’s Cup got its start with the iconic Flathead Coupes that put Ken Squier’s Thunder Road on the map back in 1961. Since then, the Governor’s Cup has bounced around between Thunder Road and the beloved Catamount Stadium in Milton, as well as between different divisions from the original coupes to Tour-type Modifieds, NASCAR Late Model Sportsman, ACT Pro Stocks and finally the Maplefields/Irving Oil Late Models that call Thunder Road home on Thursday nights all summer long!

The winner’s list is a collection of the Northeast’s greatest talent from Bugsy Stevens to Jean-Paul Cabana, Beaver, Bobby and Scott Dragon, Dave Dion, Robbie Crouch, Dick McCabe, Nick Sweet and Jason Corliss! Scott Dragon earned an incredible fourth career Vermont Governor’s Cup last time out and is sure to be on the hunt on July 17 for number five in defense of his Squier Cup Triple Crown championship!

“The Vermont Lottery values our partnership with Thunder Road,” said Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery Commissioner, Wendy Knight. “Many of our Vermont Lottery customers and their families attend events at the Speedbowl, which has been a local institution for generations of Vermonters. We appreciate the opportunity to connect with our community each summer at Thunder Road and encourage the safe and responsible enjoyment of Vermont Lottery products.”

“We’re very glad to have the Vermont Lottery continue their support of the Vermont Governor’s Cup,” said Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud. “They’ve seen firsthand the value of our great fanbase on Thursday nights, especially for the Vermont Governor’s Cup, and we’re excited to continue our partnership.”

The 46th Vermont Governor's Cup 150 presented by the Vermont Lottery is slated for Thursday, July 17 at Barre’s Thunder Road with the Maplefields/Irving Late Models ready to hit the highbanks for 150 green flag laps along with support from the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers and rk Miles Street Stocks. Special Governor’s Cup post time is set for 6:30pm with pricing soon to be announced.
