Trevor Sanborn may not have had the fastest car in the Pro All Stars Series Super Late Model portion of this year's Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. However, it was plenty fast enough for his second career PASS win at Thompson.

After separate incidents for both Eddie MacDonald and Derek Griffith as they led the event, Sanborn took the victory in the 75-lap PASS Super Late Model feature as part of the Thompson Icebreaker.

MacDonald had charged to the lead through the field, taking the top spot from Griffith with 24 laps to go. However, "Eddie Mac" hit the wall exiting turn two with 13 laps to go.

On the ensuing restart, Derek Griffith spun while alongside Sanborn battling for the lead through turns one and two. Sanborn narrowly escaped the incident, while Griffith hit the outside wall ending his chance at the win.

Sanborn admitted he didn't have the fastest car in the field in Saturday afternoon's race, but sometimes it is better to be fortunate than fast.

"We didn't have nothing for Eddie," said Sanborn. "He was the class of the field. Things happened, and we came out on top, which is pretty cool."

No matter the circumstances, it is always a special occasion to win at "The Big T." That was not lost on Sanborn, who is celebrating his second Icebreaker win with the PASS Super Late Models in the past three years.

"This place is special. I came here a long time ago. My first race here, I finished second. To win a couple here is pretty cool, it's actually my favorite race track."

D.J. Shaw, coming off his sixth PASS North championship, finished second to Sanborn. Like Sanborn, he knew the end result was probably better than his car's performance.

"Fifth was our number today," said Shaw. "I got into fifth there, and I was better than Garrett [Hall] and we got gagged up in lapped traffic. It took me the whole race to catch back up. I just got back to him and we got the yellows again

"I feel like the third and fourth place cars finished first and second today. Sometimes, that's what you need to do to win these things. Hats off to Trevor and [Richard] Moody's guys, and all of them. They worked hard for this. It's always sweet to get one, especially when you don't have the fastest car."

Cory Casagrande started 11th in the feature race, but raced his way onto the podium with a third-place finish.

"We had great speed all weekend," said Casagrande. "Obviously, just a little bit of a bad draw in the heat race and got myself starting in the back. We got lucky with the caution. I think we had top-five speed no matter what, but it was a good day."

The next stop for the PASS Super Late Models is "The Magic Mile," New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire. The host of the NASCAR Cup Series' kickoff to the Round of 12 this season also hosts the Northeast Classic, featuring the PASS Super Late Models, the American-Canadian Tour and more on April 12-13.
