Late Models are expected from Florida, Georgia, North Alabama and as far away as Texas for this weekend but they will have to get by three local favorites on Saturday night, Grant Thompson, Dustin Smith and Chad Robinson.

Grant Thomspon is coming off another Championship season at MIS. For a kid just out of high school, his racing resume is full of titles and he will be hard to beat this weekend as he looks to add some hardware to his already massive trophy case.

If you start the year testing at Daytona, you would think everything else would take a back seat, not for Dustin Smith. The test at the World Center of Speed only sharpened Smith’s focus on the 2025 Late Model season. He has already notched a top-five at the Rattler 250 (fourth) and raced Augie Grill’s 112 Super Late Model at 5 Flags last weekend. This Local Hero will be looking to notch win number one to his 2025 season on Saturday night.

Starting the 2024 Season, the most unlikely Late Model winner at MIS was wrecker-driver Chad Robinson. Robinson had spent years in the stock classes at Mobile packing up a double sack full of trophies, championships and track records, including the 2024 MIS Track Championship. Just this past weekend, Robinson set a new track record in the Sportsman Division and spanked the field for the win at the home of the Snowball Derby. Last year, he and his car owner got together to buy a Pro Late and the talented driver quickly found his way to Victory Lane. If he can take time off from his Towing Business, expect Robinson to drag the field to the Start-Finish line on Saturday night.

While the Late Models highlight Saturday night at Mobile International Speedway, they are just the icing on a big Season Opener cake being served up by Promoter Eddie Shoemaker. The Sportsman, Outlaws, Trucks and Crown Stocks will all be in action too.

Treyce Capers absolutely owned the Truck division in 2025. Capers won 7 of the 9 races last year, expect the Sunny South Raceway Graduate to continue his winning ways in 2025. Young Caleb Sanford emerged from the crowded Crown Stock Division with the 2024 Championship Trophy with a season full of consistency. Sanford took top honors with a win and 11 top 10’s out of 12 races. Sanford will be trophy hunting this season.

Pit gate opens at 2:00 on Saturday, with racing starting at 8:00PM. Ticket prices for March 29th, Grandstands $15, 10 and under free. Pit pass is $30. Practice is Thursday night, gates open at 4, track will be hot from 5-9 $20 per person.
