Southern Super Series presented by Sunoco officials have announced today that their long-awaited visit to Michael Diaz’s Southern National Motorsports Park located in Lucama, North Carolina will have to wait a little longer than the originally planned date of April 23rd.

“Our expanded schedule for 2022 has generated more excitement than we could have hoped for,” stated SSS Director Tim Bryant. “ What we didn’t know going into this season was that the tire shortages would continue to plague our industry, so our efforts to add additional races was a bit ill timed,” added Bryant. “Additionally, an unintentional scheduling conflict with the CARS Tour at nearby Goodyear All American Speedway, likely splitting up the fan count and local division car counts, made this decision seem like the right one. We have full intentions to return to Southern National as quickly as it makes good sense.”

The race was going to be the fifth race on the Southern Super Series schedule for 2022, and would have been the first visit to the 4/10ths high-banked oval of Southern National Motorsports Park In Lucama, North Carolina.

“When Tim and I first spoke of the postponement of the April 23rd SSS race," said Diaz. "We really took thought about both the racers and the fans. These racers need to have practice tires for one. Then the rising cost of fuel for these teams to get here with most of them having a 4-6 hour drive to the track, it just made sense to find another date for the event.

"The other factor being the fans and with Goodyear running a CARS Tour Event and Kirk Ipock (Solid Rock Carriers) having such an impact with both Southern National and the CARS Tours, it just really is the right decision. We don’t want our fans to have to choose which event to partake in, we want them to enjoy both series. I hate it though; I have been after Tim for years to bring the SSS to the 'Park' but it's okay. We will make the event even bigger when we can find the right date after things settle down and we can see where we are with tires and hopefully the cost for travel will be down."

The SSS is in action this weekend at Crisp Motorsports Park for the 2nd Annual Georgia Spring Nationals, presented by Keen Parts.
