Trevor Sanborn Takes Oxford Opening Day Super Late Model Victory
Apr 27, 2024
Scott Moore returned to victory lane at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday, winning the Oxford Championship Series Super Late Model feature.
Moore took the lead on the fourth lap of the 50-lap feature, holding the inside line on a three-wide battle for the top spot. From there, Moore stayed glued to the bottom lane and defended the lead during the caution-free affair.
Moore admitted in victory lane his car may have been better last time out with the Oxford Championship Series, but he was in the right place at the right time this week.
“I could really run the top last week, it was super good,” said Moore in victory lane. “This week, it was a little snug and tight. I was protecting the bottom a little bit, trying to run the best I could.
“I slipped up the inside and stole the lead there, and I said, well, now I’ve got to go. Kate [Re] ran me great, Colby [Benjamin] was awesome, too.”
2022 Kulwicki Driver Development Program finalist Kate Re finished second, bouncing back from mechanical issues that derailed her efforts in the season opener at Oxford Plains.
“It certainly feels like a win after the struggles we’ve had the past couple of races,” said Re. “I can’t thank my team enough for all their hard work.”
Meanwhile, Colby Benjamin rounded out the podium after a wild battle for the second and third spots in the final laps.
“It doesn’t get much better than that, obviously, other than where Scott’s sitting right now,” said Benjamin. “I didn’t really have the car for it today, but that’s alright. We took what we could get, kept it clean. It’s in one piece, I can work on it this week and get ready for next week. Make it a little bit faster and hopefully be over there.”
Scott McDaniel finished fourth, with Trevor Sanborn rounding out the top five.
The Oxford Championship Series will be back in action on Saturday, May 18. The Super Late Models, Limited Sportsman, Street Stocks, Mad Bombers, Runnin’ Rebels, Cruisers, Rookies and Thunder Stocks will all take the track, with racing starting at 4 p.m. ET.
