Ripley, Teras and Chicoine Win PASS 400 Heat Races at Oxford Plains

A trio of heat races for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models kicked off the PASS 400 at Oxford Plains Speedway.

The first heat race of the afternoon saw young gun Sylas Ripley start out front and lead wire-to-wire in the 20-lap race for the victory. With that, Ripley will start on the pole for the first 100-lap feature on Sunday. Mike Hopkins finished second, with track champion Trevor Sanborn finishing third.

While Ripley was able to start out front in his heat race, the winner of the second race had to pass nearly every car in the field. Austin Teras lined up on the outside of row five when the green flag dropped on heat two, but Teras utilized that outside line to quickly jump into the high groove and work his way forward.

Within eight laps, Teras took the lead from Jeremy Davis and led the rest of the way to score the victory in the second heat race. Davis finished second, with Gabe Brown rounding out the podium.

Steven Chicoine won the third and final heat race, but he had to work for it. Despite leading every lap, Chicoine fended off one of the all-time greats at Oxford Plains Speedway in Mike Rowe for the victory. At the checkered flag, Rowe was pulling to Chicoine's outside but was just .127 seconds shy of the win.

The PASS Super Late Models will compete in three 100-lap segments in Sunday's portion of the PASS 400. Saturday's heat race results determined the lineup for Sunday's first feature. The finishing order from the first 100-lapper will be inverted to determine the starting lineup for race two, and the same procedure will be used following the second race to determine the lineup for the final 100-lapper.

Along with purse payouts for each race, an overall PASS 400 champion will be crowned based on the driver who accumulates the lowest points total across the three races. Each winner will receive one point, with second place awarded two points and so forth through the field.
