Since 1974, South Alabama Speedway has been the host to “The Rattler 250”, one of the nation’s marquee Super Late Model events. For 2025, “The Rattler” will take place on the weekend of March 15th and will once again be sanctioned by the “UARA National Series”.
After many years of weather issues, we are making a change in 2025, the Rattler weekend will be a 3-day event starting on Thursday, March 13th through Saturday, March 15th, with Sunday, March 16th being the rain date.
“We can’t thank John Dykes and his family enough for allowing the UARA to come in and oversee their biggest annual event for the third year,” stated UARA’s Ricky Brooks. “I have been working “The Rattler” with John for over 12 years now and it has become one of the biggest Super Late Model events on the annual calendar.”
The 49th running of “The Rattler” will feature with “The Baby Rattler” on Friday for Pro Late Models and “The Rattler 250” for Super Late Models on Saturday which will pay $25,000 to win and $1,600 to start. The weekend will also feature the UARA Sportsman Series and the local classes that compete at SAS.
The list of past “Rattler” champions is a who is who of Super Late Model racing. Top of the list is defending Rattler winner and the 2024 UARA National Super Late Model Tour Champion, Bubba Pollard (2024, 2023, 2012), four-time winner Ty Majeski (2022, 2021, 2020, 2017, 2016), Harrison Burton (2018), Christopher Bell (2015), Casey Roderick (2014),), Jeff Fultz (2010), plus Augie Grill, Ronnie Sanders, Dave Mader III, Mike Alexander and Pete Hamilton back in 1975, the list goes on and on.
