Inclement Weather Cancels Friday Action at Hickory, Sets Up Double-Header on Saturday
Mar 15, 2024
With a poor weather forecast for Sunday at South Alabama Speedway, the 48th Hardee's Rattler 250 will now take place on Saturday, March 16.
The 48th Hardee's Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway will now be contested on Saturday, March 16.
The decision comes as a result of an unfavorable forecast for the scheduled date of Sunday, March 17 and will allow teams to compete without staying an extra day.
With the updated schedule, racing will begin at 4:00 p.m. CT/5:00 p.m. ET in order to get in the Rattler 250 as well as Saturday's previously scheduled feature racing. Those races include the 19th Annual Grasshopper Baby Rattler 125 presented by Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet and JR's Lawnmower Shop, as well as the 75-lap UARA Sportsman Series feature and South Alabama Speedway's Modifieds and Roadrunners.
The full updated schedule for Saturday can be viewed below.
This marks the third time the Rattler 250 and Baby Rattler 125 have been contested on the same day. This has previously happened in both 2011 and 2012.
With the updated schedule, there will now be more than 500 laps of racing at South Alabama Speedway on Saturday.
Late Model teams took part in two rounds of practice on Friday afternoon. Jeremy Doss was the fastest man in town on Friday, setting quick time in both rounds of UARA National Series Super Late Model practice for the Hardee's Rattler 250.
The California driver set the quickest lap of the day during the opening round of practice, at 15.433 seconds around the 4/10-mile facility. Doss backed that up with a 15.475-second lap in the second and final round of practice for the fastest lap of that round.
Michael Hinde was second-fastest in the first round of Super Late Model practice with a time of 15.573 seconds. He was followed by another pair of Florida drivers in Jake Finch and Timothy Watson, with two-time Rattler 250 winner Augie Grill rounding out the top five.
Doss led Gavan Boschele, Jett Noland, Hinde and Michael Atwell in the final practice session for Super Late Models. Noland won the UARA National Series' most recent event, taking the checkered flag in the Bill Bigley, Sr. Memorial 128 last November at the Freedom Factory.
In Pro Late Model practice, Jason Vail set the fastest lap of the afternoon, circling the track in 15.852 seconds. Vail's quick time came in the final round of Pro Late Model practice ahead of Saturday's 19th Annual Grasshopper Baby Rattler 125 presented by Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet and JR's Lawnmower Shop.
Three-time Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway track champion Dylan Fetcho posted the fastest lap in the first round of Pro Late Model practice with a time of 15.899 seconds. Colin Allman was second, followed by Stephen Nasse, Jake Finch and Landon DeVaughn.
