Not only is the event one of the biggest in short track racing, but it also holds a special place in McCallister’s heart. Lee McCallister, Tonya’s father, was the car owner and builder for Robert Powell’s 1999 victory in the Martinsville 300.
“Martinsville has always been an important place to us. The iconic trophy clock they present is sought after by so many! Even my son, Elliott, always wants to race at Martinsville on NASCAR Heat so he can try to win the grandfather clock.”
“My dad’s house car won there in 1999 the day after our nanny passed away. Dad gave me the clock a few years back and it’s really special to not only me but my entire family. The Martinsville clock itself is amazing, and for us it’s just a little more than a grandfather clock.”
