Shae Gemmell Gets Redemption With APC United Late Model Series Win at Flamboro
Jul 14, 2024
For the third time during the 2024 season, Kyle Steckly won with the APC United Late Model Series on Saturday night at Sauble Speedway.
Steckly was the car to beat in the Grisdale Racing Products 150, taking the lead on lap 89 and winning by more than six seconds over Junior Farrelly. This performance only adds to Steckly's points lead as he seeks a second consecutive title with the series.
"I mean, another win here, good job for the points, for sure," said Steckly. "Thanks to all the fans for coming out. This place was packed, which was good to see.
"It was a real good car. My crew always does a good job for me. I apologize to them because I'm always a pain in the butt to them during practice, complaining about the car and never too happy. When we're in victory lane here, it all pays off. Glad to be here and ready to see where the next three races take us."
Steckly has enjoyed a very successful year, highlighted by a win with the ASA STARS National Tour in the Redbud 400 at Anderson Speedway. However, he doesn't plan on slowing down any with his racing back home in Canada in the APC United Late Model Series.
"It's the best of the best in Canada. Look at the show they put on tonight. Great cars, great people, and a great series ran by great people. I love being here, have a lot of fun at these short tracks back home where I grew up."
Farrelly, the winner of the season opener at Sunset Speedway in May, was excited to get back on the podium after a trying stretch since that victory.
"Dale [Shaw] and the whole crew, they've been getting us back to where we need to be," said Farrelly. "We were pretty good at Flamboro, just riding and ended up with some contact on the fence and that wrecked the car. We knew we were pretty good here if we stayed out of trouble."
The final spot on the podium was determined on the last lap, as Connor Pritiko muscled his way around Shae Gemmell.
"It was good, I just got roughed up on the last few restarts there," said Pritiko. "I don't really like racing people, moving them out of the way like that. But when you put me in the wall on the backstretch, you've got to expect something coming, after the second week in a row.
"We've got a really good car. It's fast," added Pritiko. "I think we were a second-place car. We didn't have anything for Kyle."
The APC United Late Model Series returns to action next Saturday, August 10, at Sunset Speedway.
