Kyle Crump won the rain-shortened JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Owosso Nationals 150 at Owosso Speedway on Sunday.
Crump took the lead on a lap 75 restart, as Chase Pinsonneault struggled to get up to speed from the top spot. Crump remained the leader when the red flag was displayed after 106 laps due to weather. Despite the best efforts of JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour and Owosso Speedway officials over the course of several hours, ultimately the decision was made to declare the race official.
Piloting the No. 23 Edco Welding and Hydraulics entry, Crump picked up $15,000 for his efforts in the win.
"I've got to thank Ed and Donna [VanMeter] for letting me drive it," said Crump after the race. "Billy, he's not here right now, but it's good to get this car in victory lane. It's back to back for this car.
"I paced myself a little bit. We knew the rain was coming, and I really thought both the Chases were pushing pretty hard. The cautions fell at a good time, and I was able to pick them off."
The rain may have come at the perfect time for Crump, as he was starting to experience a vibration inside the car before the race was halted.
"It was a pretty bad vibration going into that last run. The rain definitely helped us. I wanted to see it because I didn't know what was going to happen with the car."
Crump led Dylan Stovall by nearly three seconds when the caution flew for the final time in the race. Stovall will be credited with second place, followed by Chase Burda, Pinsonneault and Barrett Polhemus.
Pinsonneault led the first 74 laps of the race. However, he fell as far back as sixth on the pivotal restart before settling into fifth position.
The decisive restart followed a major crash involving Chris Shannon and Kevin Cremonesi. Shannon flipped upside-down on the frontstretch in the incident after the two drivers made contact exiting turn four. Both drivers were okay following the incident.
Blake Rowe finished eighth after entering the race as the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour points leader. This means Polhemus, Pinsonneault and Burda all gained ground in the standings in a title chase that will now go down to the final race.
The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour championship fight will be decided on Friday, October 11 at Winchester Speedway. This will be the first night of the 53rd Winchester 400 presented by Vores Welding and Steel, culminating with the crown jewel event for the ASA STARS National Tour Super Late Models on Sunday, October 13.
