Kelsey and Travis Dassow have been announced at the new owners of Slinger Super Speedway.
The news was shared in a post on Slinger Super Speedway’s Facebook page, with a message from the Dassows introducing themselves as the new owners of the facility.
“This opportunity of owning Slinger Speedway was a dream that became a reality for us,” reads the post. “We believe change brings fresh perspectives and new opportunities. As owners, we will keep the family tradition of Sunday night racing.”
The Dassows met as racers at Slinger Speedway. Kelsey Dassow was awarded the Alan Kulwicki Memorial Scholarship in 2011 and 2012 while attending the UW-Milwaukee College of Engineering.
"Both Travis and I both continued to be involved in the sport of racing, as car and team owners of Apex Motorsports and now we are track owners. Slinger Speedway has come full circle in our lives and will continue to be a part of our family. Our two children, Harlie (5) and Easton (8), love our life of racing, and Easton [have] been racing go-karts for two years.
"Travis and I also own another business, TD Graphics, with Travis managing that business and I am an engineer."
In February, previous owners Todd and Elizabeth Thelen announced a sale of historic Slinger Super Speedway was pending, assuring the potential buyers came from a racing background and would continue racing at Slinger Speedway.
Slinger Super Speedway is preparing for its 78th season of racing, scheduled to begin on April 27 with the Jerry “Bear” Priesgen Memorial. Slinger is the home of the Slinger Nationals, a prestigious short track event with a list of winners that includes the likes of NASCAR Hall of Famers such as Alan Kulwicki, Mark Martin and Matt Kenseth, NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, two-time Daytona 500 winner William Byron and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion Ty Majeski.
Some of the best Late Model drivers from Wisconsin and beyond have also won the event, including the likes of Joe Shear, Dick Trickle, Rich Bickle, Jr., Bubba Pollard, Butch Miller, and the event's youngest winner, Luke Fenhaus.
The 45th Annual Cobblestone Hotels Slinger Nationals Presented by Lynch Buick-GMC of West Bend is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8.
