Cup Weekend Wrap
The Kulwicki Driver Development Program introduced a unique twist on the battle for the Kulwicki Cup for 2025, and it is being implemented for the first time this weekend.
KDDP announced Wednesday that "Wild Cards" have been added as part of the on-track competition segment of the Kulwicki Driver Development Program. Each of the five finalists have five Wild Cards to utilize throughout the 2025 season. The driver must announce their intention to use the wild card on social media before race weekend, and will receive double points in the Kulwicki Cup standings for that race.
Seth Christensen also announced Wednesday he will be using the first of his Wild Cards in a big race this weekend, the zMAX CARS Tour's appearance at Cordele Motor Speedway.
More than 35 cars are entered for the Pro Late Model portion of Saturday's Byron Outdoor Superstore 225 at Cordele. Christensen is very familiar with the track in his home state of Georgia, with top-five finishes in both the SpeedFest Pro Late Model 100 and the World Crown at Cordele in 2024.
He now hopes that experience will help him take advantage of the first Wild Card opportunity in the Kulwicki Driver Development Program.
"I've never been one to shy away from a challenge!" said Christensen on Facebook.
"With 35 Pro Late Models entered in the CARS Tour series at Cordele Motor Speedway, I have decided to declare this event as my first Kulwicki Driver Development Program WILD CARD race!"
More details regarding the Wild Card and the 2025 Kulwicki Driver Development Program will be announced at a later date.
Christensen, Noah Eisenhower, Derek Gluchacki, Taylor Hoar and Bryce Miller compose this year's Kulwicki Driver Development Program finalists.
In addition to on-track performance, the five finalists will be judged on off-track civic participation, program promotion, fan interaction, and stewardship of Alan Kulwicki’s story.
Each of the five finalists will receive $7,000 in monies, goods and services. During the season, the drivers will receive training sessions that focus on fitness, interviews, media presentation and social media so they will be better prepared to take their careers to the next level.
Throughout the season, the five finalists will compete against each other for $30,000 in monies, goods and services to be divided among the top three finishers at the end of the season. Each driver is required to compete in a minimum of 14 races.
