Kasey Kleyn went into the Northwest Super Late Model Series history books on Saturday night, winning the tour's first-ever visit to the Motorplex at the Mill in Emmett, Idaho.

Kleyn inherited the lead on lap 42 of the 150-lap feature when Kyle Tellstrom spun from the top spot. From there, Kleyn distanced himself from the field for a dominant victory, his third consecutive win with the series.

“We had a really good car," said Kleyn in victory lane. "We knew at the start of the race we weren’t going to be the fastest to fire off. We knew we just had to wait, wait and wait, get our timing. Brake fade was a big deal here. We were able to overcome that, we were saving brakes a lot there. The more we saved brakes, the faster we actually got, backing my corners up. It played in our favor to save.

“Once we had that competition caution, I moved to the top. It was probably the wrong move, but I was worried about getting moved so the guy can get to the inside. It’s a clean move, you expect it in short track racing like this, so I was trying to avoid it. Luckily, I made the corner, got the lead and left them from there.”

Ken Bonney finished second to Kleyn, scoring a career-best finish with the Northwest Super Late Models. It may not have been a win, but the runner-up showing was a massive occasion for the veteran from Oregon.

“Believe it or not, this is our first time on the podium in three years. It’s a big, big deal for me, especially at 61 years old chasing a 16-year-old. It’s a little tough. I really appreciate you all coming out and supporting this track. Hopefully, we’ll see you at the next big tour race."

Scott Walker finished third, with Eric Rhead and Nick Cooper rounding out the top five.

The next stop for the Northwest Super Late Models is a big one, the Montana 200 at Mission Valley Super Oval. The 33rd Montana 200 is scheduled for July 12-13.
