Jett Noland won the Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction Pro Late Model season opener on Saturday night at Cordele Motor Speedway.
The attrition-filled event came down to a six-lap shootout at the end of the 100-lap race, with Noland restarting to the inside of Jake Finch. The two drivers made contact on the exit of turn two, dropping him to fourth. Noland carried on to the win ahead of Hudson Bulger, while Finch rebounded for a third-place finish.
After the race, Finch pulled alongside Noland on the backstretch to express his displeasure with the late-race restart.
“We got a little bit tight and got into Jake a little bit on the exit of the corner," said Noland in victory lane. "I didn’t mean to do that. He was running us up the corner getting in everywhere else."
Still, Noland was pleased to pick up an early win to start the 2025 Pro Late Model season after some challenging efforts to start the year at Cordele in Super Late Model competition.
“We’ve had a rough couple of races, but we’re getting everything back situated. Brand-new FURY Race Car, can’t thank them enough for the work they did, and my team again for all the work they did.”
With only five cars finishing on the leap lap out of 22 starters in the chaotic race, Bulger was happy to bring his Pro Late Model home in one piece. Adding a runner-up finish made the night even better.
“I’m just honestly excited to bring the car home in one piece. Obviously, we could have probably had a little better finish there. I’m always glad with second. Any time you can finish the race is good.
"I feel like we just tried really hard at the end to run the top and we probably shouldn’t have done that. Probably should have waited until the tires got a little warmer to see if that would have worked.”
While Finch shared in an interview with Short Track Scene he believed Noland had the better car on the evening, he was frustrated with how he was raced throughout the event and particularly on the final restart.
"He has control of the race, he's the leader, right? I respect that," said Finch. "He had a good restart, I had a good restart, we were pretty even. He runs me up in turn two, which is fine. We're racing for the lead, whatever. Then, coming down the backstretch, he door-bangs me and I've got to lift because I'm going to run off the track into Germany or whatever it is, out there in the watermelon patch.
"It's fine, I'm not too stressed out about it. It's just like, dude, the whole race, you were door-banging me, door-banging me, door-banging me. He said I ran him up, yeah, I'm going to run you up when you hit me 30 times.
"Honestly, the whole race, I was trying to protect as much as I could. I thought the 50 had the better race car all night. I thought we saw that in qualifying. I just thought it didn't have to be like that."
Corey Ruble finished fourth, with Christopher Tullis rounding out the top five.
The next race at Cordele Motor Speedway takes place on March 8. The event features a Pro Truck 50-lapper, with Outlaws, Enduros, Crown Vics, Legends, and Bandoleros also in action.
The Atlanta Paving & Concrete Construction Pro Late Models return to action in exactly one week's time on March 22 for the Georgia Pro Late Model Spring Nationals.
