The Canada Day weekend event at Delaware Speedway is a long awaited race for Short Track Racer Jake Sheridan as each year it proves to be a strong run for the SSR team based out of Mt Brydges, Ontario. This weekend hosts what Jake deems to be his favourite event of the tour.
This time last year Sheridan and his team soaked up a hard fought win after coming from the back of the pack after an incident involving contact with the choose cone - a new rule to the APC United Late Model Series in 2023.
2024 has been a rough start for Jake’s 7th season with the series, which he’s hopeful has started to turn around after recalling his last race. “Solid Finish, it was nice to get the monkey off our back and come home with a podium finish for the team.”
The team had posted 3 DNF’s to start the year, all for different mechanical failures or race related damage. However, the team has been hard at work to bring their best to the track every time out, “All day I felt like we had a good car to compete for the win, unfortunately we lost some handling later in the run that forced us to surrender the lead. We were happy to be able to bring a good finish to our loyal partners and new partner Connell’s Construction.”
Local Peterborough based business, Connell’s Construction, joined as a Sponsor on the hood for 2 APC United Late Model Races; the first being Peterborough Speedway and the second at Delaware Speedway June 29th for the NTN BCA 100. For the remainder of the season Connell’s Construction will be featured on the side of the Pro Late Model.
The 52 car will be carrying some confidence from their podium finish at Peterborough Speedway during their last race, “Peterborough was a really good momentum building race for us, even just to finish the race. Coming into a race we won last year and it being my home track, it’s very motivating.”
Community is huge for this team, Jakes reminds us what it's all about for their team telling us “It’s amazing to come home for all of our sponsors and put on a show for them. I love racing in front of a crowd of people I know, even though it adds a lot of pressure, it's always fun to have everyone there with you.”
Sheridan will continue to post his updates live from the Speedway on his Instagram @JakeSheridan_52 - make sure to follow along.
