Ty Gibbs Scores Another Xfinity Series Win at Michigan
Aug 7, 2022
It took 10 laps for Jake Garcia to take the lead and there was very little to deny the No. 35 team their second victory in the Show Me The Money Pro Late Model Series at Montgomery Motor Speedway on Saturday night.
Giovanni Ruggiero gave it everything he had on the final 27 lap run to the finish but came up .277 short.
"We did a good job in practice, knowing what the track was doing and adjusting accordingly," Garcia said of the Ricky Turner led team. "We had a strong car and kept it out front. Negotiated lap traffic and finally got back in Victory Lane."
There were two cautions, for a Jim Wall spin and Nick McFarland respectively on Laps 68 and 96 but Garcia executed and there wasn't much else to deny the reigning Southern Super Series champion.
"When you get track position, there isn't a lot in front of you to mess you up but you do have to stay disciplined," Garcia said.
Ruggiero was fresh off a victory at Watermelon Capital Speedway the weekend prior and was just disappointed to have not closed out for back to back wins for the Anthony Campi Racing No. 81 team.
"The ACR guys gave me a great car, just disappointed we couldn't close it out," Ruggiero said.
Closing out the podium for Brittney Zamora of Rackley WAR.
"We're getting better each time we come out," Zamora said. "The seat time and track time is important and We're on the right track. We finished fourth the first two races and was dedicated to not finishing fourth again this weekend, so this is progress."
Justin Bonnett led the first 10 laps before Garcia and Willie Allen squeezed by. Allen ran inside the top-3 for most of the race but pit with a mechanical issue during the caution for the McFarland spin on Lap 97.
The Show Me The Money Series continues on Sept. 3 with the Fall Brawl 100.
