George Phillips is revved up and ready to make his return to the zMAX CARS Tour Pro Late Model series during this weekend's highly anticipated 7th annual Throwback event at Hickory Motor Speedway.

After making a handful of starts last season, Phillips has surged ahead in 2024, making a lasting impression since joining the FHR team earlier this year. His standout performances, including two victories at Speedweeks in New Smyrna Speedway, have underscored his talent and dedication.

“The season has been nothing short of amazing," Phillips enthused. "Driving for FHR has been a blessing, and this year has been incredible for me."

Navigating the transition to faster tracks has been a learning curve for the 15-year old driver, who reflected on his growth throughout the season: "I have loved learning on the big fast tracks, having the speed, and the different style of racing.”

“We’ve been running down at 5 Flags [Speedway] to gain track time in preparation for the Snowflake at the end of the year” he continues. “We’ve been running the weekly series at Nashville and have had a really fast car, leading laps and again, just gaining seat time.”

Among the season's highlights, Phillips focused on the opportunity to compete against top-tier drivers within the Pro Late Model landscape. "The competition in the Southeast has been fierce," he remarked. “I’ve had the opportunity to compete and learn from some of the best drivers in the country”

Looking ahead to this weekend's event at Hickory Motor Speedway, Phillips exudes confidence.

“I'm feeling really good about Hickory. It's going to be an exciting race with tough competition."

Phillips and the FHR team recently tested at the track, receiving praise from team owner Jamie Yelton. "George is the real deal," Yelton commented. "His ability to adapt and maintain consistency is impressive. He listens and gives it his all every time he’s on the track” he continues. “He's got a bright future ahead in racing."

The zMAX CARS Tour's Throwback weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway is a highlight each year, where drivers pay homage to racing legends. Fans can catch Phillips racing in a special throwback scheme honoring his racing idol, Jeff Gordon. "I chose the throwback because of Jeff Gordon, the man who got me into racing," Phillips explained. "Jeff has helped me so much in so many ways, and I’m very thankful for all he’s done” Phillips adds. “I love his 2005 Daytona 500 winning paint scheme, it’s one of my favorites.”

As the season progresses, Phillips remains focused on his goals. "I'm aiming to win races and gain as much experience as possible," he affirmed.

Don't miss George Phillips in action at Hickory Motor Speedway this weekend, as he looks to continue his impressive rookie campaign in the #55 FHR Pro Late Model. This weekend’s events kick off on Friday morning with open practice session beginning at 11:30am. The 100-lap SoundGear Throwback Pro Late Model 100 gets underway at 7:30pm.
