Farrington Using Coast-to-Coast Effort to Race in the South

To say that Dave Farrington, Jr. is excited to be back in a race car this weekend is an understatement. With the race season a few months away in his home state of Maine, Farrington is going to travel south to take part in his first ASA Southern Super Series event with the upcoming SpeedFest at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia

“I've heard a lot of good things about it from a lot of guys that have been there,” said Farrington. “A bunch of people that are from this area, Jerry Babb, and some other people who said Cordele is like Oxford. I am not sure I believe that, but at Oxford, it’s all about throttle control and we have run well there a lot over the last few years.”

Farrington is a two-time track champion at Oxford Plains Speedway (ME) and now he will be taking his new ride sponsored by Norm's Used Cars, Renegade Race Lubricants, & DMD Racing machine to the Deep South.

Racing in the south is nothing new for Farrington. Back in 2017 he ran the balance of the PASS South Schedule and was fourth in the final points at venues he had never raced at with Dickie Woodman’s car.

“We had a lot of good runs, a lot of close calls where we could have won a couple of races,” said Farrington. “Then at the end of the year, we just had a couple of fall-offs and fell back in points but it didn't reflect what could have been that year.”

Now his effort is fresh with a new chassis from Distance Racing out of Maine which has produced so many regional winners over the years as well as in the south.

“I've chatted with Donnie Wilson a little bit about coming down south and we talk about Oxford and he says, ‘well you do good in Oxford, you should be able to do okay coming down here and race against us too.’ So we'll see if that's the case hopefully.”

The effort does not stop there as Farrington plans to run the second Southern Super Series race, the Clyde Hart Memorial 200, at New Smyrna Speedway on February 13th. His Distance Racing car is kept in Florida allowing him and a small crew to travel to Georgia and then on to Florida next month.

“We are planning that and a few nights of Speedweeks to get ready for the second race. Having the car in Florida helps us keep the wear and tear on the truck and trailer down for the year. We have to keep the car clean as the chassis builder, Jeff Taylor, is 1200 miles away.”

The race at New Smyrna will also be the series opener for the ASA STARS National Tour 2024 season. Farrington will be making his inaugural start with the series after making his first start with the Southern Super Series this weekend.
