In a thrilling finish at the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway on Saturday night, Dawson Sutton took the win in the 100-lap Pro Late Model feature with a last-lap pass of Hunter Wright.
Sutton and Wright battled fiercely throughout the second half of the event to close out Breast Cancer Awareness Night at the Fairgrounds Speedway. Sutton led the first half of the event, but briefly lost the lead to Wright on a lap 57 restart.
Wright regained the lead on lap 79, again utilizing the outside line on a restart to power around Sutton. Wright led until the final lap, when Sutton muscled his way past Wright in the final turn to take the lead and the win.
With the victory, Sutton added to his Pro Late Model points lead and now has four wins at the Nashville Fairgrounds in 2024. The win also gives him momentum ahead of All American 400 weekend, where he'll look to seal the track championship.
"It was a really good weekend overall," said Sutton in victory lane. "Rackley W.A.R. brought me a great car. I can't thank everybody enough. This just means a lot, a win at my home track. This really just sets up for the All American race, so I'm really excited."
Wright expressed his displeasure with Sutton on the cool-down lap, but Sutton chalked up the last-lap aggression to how he had been raced earlier in the event.
"It's alright," said Sutton. "When you chop somebody's nose for 30 laps, you've got to do something about it. It is what it is, and we'll move on to the next race."
Wright held on for second, while Corey Deuser finished third, with Jackson Boone fourth and George Phillips fifth in the final running order. Phillips rebounded from a spin on the seventh lap for his top-five finish.
When racing returns to Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway, it will be for the All American 400 weekend on November 1-3. Along with the season finale for the ASA STARS National Tour, Nashville's local divisions will also be in action throughout the weekend, as well as CRA Street Stocks and the Vores Compact Touring Series.
