Dawson Sutton Paces Clyde Hart Memorial Final Practice in Backup Car
Feb 11, 2025
Conner Jones claimed the CorvetteParts.Net Pole Award for Tuesday's Clyde Hart Memorial at New Smyrna Speedway, the first race of the ASA STARS National Tour season.
Jones was fastest in a field of 32 cars, clocking in at 17.809 seconds around the Florida half-mile. It has been a challenging week at times for Jones, but he is optimistic entering the 200-lap feature race on Tuesday night.
"We've struggled with it a little bit all week," said Jones. "Just a little bit off on the race pace. I think we've got it figured out. I think we've made some adjustments to the rear and made it where it can last on the long run, I think."
Gabe Sommers was second-fastest, followed by Carson Brown, Ty Majeski and William Sawalich.
Brown won on Friday night in the World Series of Asphalt. Majeski was the inaugural ASA STARS National Tour champion in 2023.
Along with some of the biggest names in Super Late Model racing, a pair of NASCAR Cup Series competitors are in Tuesday's field.
Cody Ware placed 26th in the qualifying session, continuing his participation in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. On Friday night, Ware finished seventh on the opening night of racing in the New Smyrna tradition.
On Monday evening, Christopher Bell was announced as a late addition to the field in a Wilson Motorsports entry. Bell did not take part in Monday's ASA practice sessions, so his first laps on track came Tuesday in a brief shakedown before qualifying.
Bell qualified 30th after that limited track time, but he is a former Super Late Model winner at New Smyrna. Bell won a 100-lap Super Late Model contest during the 2015 World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
The green flag waves on the Clyde Hart Memorial at 7:30 p.m. ET.
