Casey Roderick will lead the field to the green flag for Sunday's 53rd Winchester 400 presented by Vores Welding and Steel after setting fast time in GoFas Pole Qualifying on Saturday at Winchester Speedway.
The penultimate driver to take the high-banked half-mile during the time trial session, Roderick clocked in at 15.508 seconds on his first lap, good enough to claim the pole award.
Roderick enters Sunday's Winchester 400 as the points leader for the ASA STARS National Tour, leading Kyle Steckly by 157 points. He has already been crowned the ASA Southern Super Series and Deep South Crane Blizzard Series champion for 2024 as well.
Making his second Winchester 400 appearance, Roderick also started on the pole in his previous attempt in 2022 before finishing fifth. This year, he hopes to take home the Winchester Rifle trophy to add to his collection.
"Since I don't have one, so it'd be pretty cool to get one this weekend and keep going strong," said Roderick. "We're doing good, we've just got to keep the momentum going."
Some late adjustments during Saturday's practice give Roderick confidence following his pole run in qualifying that his Anthony Campi Racing No. 81 is prepared for the 400-lap marathon on Sunday.
"We found something there in the last five minutes of practice. The car drove real nice right there in qualifying. I think it's going to hold up good on the long haul, the way it's driving. I could be wrong, I've been wrong before, but I feel real confident in the car and all the guys behind me. They did an excellent job today, worked their tails off in practice.
"We went through a lot of changes, just trying to find that little extra bit. They did an awesome job, Cody Glick made some really good changes. Thank everyone at ACR for all their hard work and preparation they do at the shop. They've been dealing with some weather back home in Florida, so thanks to all those guys."
However, everyone in tomorrow's race knows how daunting 400 laps on the grueling high banks of Winchester Speedway can be on both man and machine.
"It's a survival race," said Roderick. "Four hundred laps is a lot of laps around this place. It puts a beating on the cars, hitting the high banks here at Winchester. I love this place. It's probably one of my favorite places to come to and race. It's my second time only, so I'm really looking forward to tomorrow."
Defending Winchester 400 winner Gio Ruggiero was second-fastest, followed by Blake Rowe, two-time Winchester 400 winner Stephen Nasse and 2023 ASA STARS National Tour champion Ty Majeski.
Sunday's 53rd Winchester 400 presented by Vores Welding and Steel is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. ET.
