Carson Brown led wire-to-wire in Wednesday night's Super Late Model feature at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna Speedway, his second win during this year's week-long showcase of racing.
Brown won last Friday after a disqualification for William Sawalich in post-race technical inspection. This time, Brown crossed the finish line first, finishing ahead of Gavan Boschele and Cory Hall.
It's been a solid World Series of Asphalt for Brown, including the opening night win and a top-five finish on Sunday evening. On Wednesday, everything came together for the North Carolina driver to take the checkered flag, including plenty of green flag racing in the 35-lap sprint.
"We've had a really good car these past few nights," said Brown in victory lane. "Unfortunately, we just haven't really been able to get it done. We've had such a good long-run car, but there's been a lot of cautions. It feels good to get a green-flag run.
"It means a lot. I feel like we've been so good but had a lot of let-downs. To get two wins here so far feels really good."
Boschele, the winner of the ASA STARS National Tour Clyde Hart Memorial on Tuesday night, added a runner-up finish on Wednesday. While he hoped for one spot better on his 17th birthday, Boschele took solace in the benefit of the second-place effort in the tight battle for the World Seires of Asphalt championship.
"I want to win, but it helps with the points here," said Boschele. "We missed it a little bit there. It was a little too free for the long run, so we've got to get it better for the 100-lapper tomorrow. I can't thank all of the Wilson guys enough. This JBL Toyota Camry was really good, it just needs to be a little bit better."
Cory Hall is another driver in the championship battle for the Super Late Models at the World Series of Asphalt, and kept himself in contention with a third-place finish. However, Hall was frustrated after the race due to damage suffered on his No. 83 early in the feature.
"I'm just a little irritated," said Hall. "It's a shame we're tearing body panels off cars on lap 10. I'm new to this, so I'm trying to earn respect when I can. I expect the same back. It just sucks to have the left side torn off.
"Aside from that, the car was really good. We just missed it a little bit being a little too free. A solid finish, we're very happy with the performance of the car this week and all the work the guys have done. Just really want to be able to race and not be tearing up body panels at this point. Hopefully we can get through the 100 and not have to wreck any cars."
The World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing's Super Late Model championship will be decided during the Orange Blossom 100 on Thursday night. Tour-type Modifieds, Pro Late Models and 602 Modifieds will also be in action on Night #7 of the World Series.
