Carson Brown scored his first career win in the Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series at Five Flags Speedway on Friday night, and took a big step towards the series championship in the process.
Brown, driving the No. 81 Anthony Campi entry, took the lead on lap 17 and never looked back, finishing 4.6 seconds ahead of George Phillips for the win.
Former Alabama 200 winner Seth Christensen won the first two races of the Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series this year. However, a ninth-place finish for Christensen on Friday and Brown's consistency gives Brown the points lead entering the finale on September 28.
"It feels great," said Brown in victory lane. "Me and Anthony have been working hard. We were kind of sick of these second-place finishes here. We were just going for it."
"Anthony coaches me a lot and teaches me a lot. This place is very tough. It's really cool to be able to conquer this place and get a win here."
Phillips finished second, followe dby Zack Dixon, Jim Wall and Jake Finch.
Cody Stickler dominated the Modifieds of Mayhem feature, winning by more than six seconds ahead of Jeremy Williams. Stickler took the lead from Jeff Letson on lap 22 of the 50-lap race. Letson finished third, with Jaxon Bishop fourth and Jason Allen fifth.
Other winners on the evening included Treyce Capers (Pro Trucks) and Zachary Curtis (Crown Stocks).
Friday's race was the first leg of a Gulf Coast doubleheader for Pro Late Model teams as part of the Rogers-Dabbs Performance Pro Late Model Challenge. The Rogers-Dabbs Challenge competes at Mobile International Speedway on Saturday, August 24, with the first green flag of the evening waving at 8 p.m CT/9 p.m. ET.
