A familiar name topped the charts in final practice for the Clyde Hart Memorial at New Smyrna Speedway on Tuesday.
William Byron, coming off a win on Monday night during New Smyrna's World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, clocked in at 17.989 seconds to log the fastest lap of the practice session for the ASA Southern Super Series season opener.
The Hendrick Motorsports driver in the NASCAR Cup Series also won last year's Clyde Hart Memorial. This will be the first year the event is run as a combination event between the ASA Southern Super Series and the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing's David Rogers Super Late Model division.
Conner Jones, coming off a win on Monday night in the Pro Late Model division as well as news of his multi-year agreement with ThorSport Racing, was second-fastest, followed by Gio Ruggiero, Bobby Goode and World Series opening night winner William Sawalich.
Casey Roderick set fast time in the first round of practice on Tuesday, followed by Jake Finch, Bubba Pollard, Byron and Matt Craig. During the first practice session, Stewart Friesen suffered damage to the right-front of his machine after contact with James Lynch on the frontstretch. He did not take time during final practice, but expects he and his team will have repairs made in time to return to action for Tuesday night's race.
The green flag will drop on feature racing Tuesday night at New Smyrna at 7:30 p.m. ET with the 602 Modified division. The Tour-type Modifieds will then run a 50-lap feature before the Clyde Hart Memorial 100-lap event.
