Forest City, NC – Super Late Model racing standout Bubba Pollard is joining forces with FatHead Racing (FHR) as the new driver coach for the team's development program.
Pollard, known across the industry for his no-nonsense approach and track record that speaks for itself, is stepping into this role to guide the next wave of racing talent.
“I’ve always wanted to do the driver development thing, but the timing and resources just weren’t there,” said Pollard. “I’ve been focused on my own racing and building our program, but now, with FHR, it’s the right time to get this going”. “He has great cars and I believe in what he’s doing and building”.
So, why partner with FatHead Racing now? Pollard explains, “Jamie and his team are a solid group. We’re cut from the same cloth—just a couple of rednecks who live for the thrill of the race and bringing home trophies.”
Pollard isn’t just another perennial contender; he’s a four-time Blizzard Series Champion, with an admirable racing resume, winning many of the country’s most prestigious Late Model events. With a reputation for racing smart and with respect, his blend of speed and strategy is what makes him an invaluable addition to FHR's development team.
“Sure, anyone can drive fast,” Pollard said, “but winning? That’s a different game. It’s about knowing how to race, and it all starts with respect on the track.”
Jamie Yelton, owner of FatHead Racing, echoed Pollard's sentiments and expressed excitement about the new partnership. “We’re not here to cash checks; we’re here to develop young drivers who want to put in the work and grow,” said Jamie. “We’ve worked with a lot of drivers over the years and take pride in their progress and development.”
The addition of Pollard as driver coach signals a new era for FHR. The team's commitment to nurturing and developing the next generation of racing talent partnered with Pollard's expertise and success is set to elevate the team’s already strong development program both on and off the track.
Over the past decade, FHR has cultivated a slew of drivers, including names like Collin Garrett, David Garbo Jr., Jackson Boone, and even NASCAR Cup Series drivers David Ragan, Bubba Wallace, and Corey LaJoie. More recently, 16-year-old George Phillips made waves in the Pro Late Model scene, scoring two wins during the 2024 World Series of Asphalt Racing in New Smyrna and podium finishes at SpeedFest in Cordele and The Baby Rattler at South Alabama Speedway.
Yelton added, “We’ve got top-tier cars every week, but having Bubba onboard to work one-on-one with our drivers is a game-changer. His track record is unmatched, and we’re excited to give our drivers a chance to learn from the best.”
Pollard will balance his new role whilst still competing with his family-run operation, fielding entries in Super Late Model events across the country - including Fall ‘majors’ like the Winchester 400, the All American 400, and the coveted Snowball Derby.
