Rattler 250 Moved Forward, Added to Packed Saturday of Racing at South Alabama
Mar 15, 2024
There are several bonus money opportunities on the line in Saturday's Grasshopper Baby Rattler 125 presented by Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet and JR's Lawnmower Shop.
While a lot of the headlines will be on the Hardee's Rattler 250 at South Alabama Speedway on Saturday, there is a lot on the line in the Grasshopper Baby Rattler 125 presented by Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet and JR's Lawnmower Shop.
The Pro Late Model prelude typically runs on Saturday night before the Super Late Models hit the track for 250 laps on Sunday during Hardee's Rattler Weekend. However, an unfavorable forecast for Sunday has moved the Super Late Model race to Saturday, adding to an action-packed day of racing that will include more than 500 laps of feature racing.
The Baby Rattler 125 will be the first race on track Friday, with a field of 26 Pro Late Models on hand. The winner's share of the purse for that race is $10,000. That, along with its place on a historic, signature Late Model weekend of racing, already makes it a highly-sought trophy for the resume.
However, there is also $2,250 in bonus money on the line thanks to two sponsors who have stepped up to support the Pro Late Model Rattler 125.
Assembly Products, Inc., based out of Westfield, Wisconsin, has sponsored a "Rookie of the Race" award. The highest finisher among drivers taking part in the Baby Rattler for the first time will win that award, worth $1,000.
Brian Reeves is competing in the Baby Rattler 125, but he's also adding in $1,250 to the bonus pool courtesy of Southern Truck Outfitters of nearby Enterprise, Alabama. That money will go to lap leaders throughout the event, with each lap led paying $10.
Thus, it is possible for a driver to win up to $12,250 on Saturday evening if a rookie won the race after leading every lap of the race. No matter how it shakes out, it is plenty of incentive for drivers to compete up front for the lead and the win.
The 19th Annual Grasshopper Baby Rattler 125 presented by Rogers-Dabbs Chevrolet and JR's Lawnmower Shop is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. CT/5 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 16 to start the revamped evening of racing at South Alabama Speedway.
