Reno Scores First Pro Stock Victory of 2022 at Wiscasset
Jun 7, 2022
Barre, VT — The American-Canadian Tour is set to continue the 2022 season this Saturday, June 11th at White Mountain Motorsports Park (WMMP) with the 47th edition of the timeless Spring Green presented by Caron Fabrication. Traditionally assigning the distance by the current year, this year’s 122-lap event brings us one of the more unique events of the season.
The Spring Green started as the season opener for Milton, Vermont’s Catamount Stadium way back in 1974 and kept that honor until it’s final season in 1987. The event has since been contested at the ultra-fast 0.826-mile Trioval at Sanair Super Speedway and the former paved half-miles at Plattsburgh, New York’s Airborne Speedway and Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, Vermont.
Last year’s Spring Green marked the third consecutive year the event was held at North Woodstock, New Hampshire’s White Mountain Motorsports Park and should also be noted for it was the sixteenth time since 1979 that the Spring Green was won by a first-time ACT winner. New Salem, Massachusetts native Tom Carey III joined the ACT Late Model Tour winners list last June when he overtook multi-time White Mountain Late Model champion Quinny Welch and defended late charges from Mike Hopkins in the Port City Racecars house car.
“It was a surreal experience,” said Carey. “WMMP is one of my favorite places to race…Honestly, I’ve been waiting to run THIS race since we pulled out of the pits that night!” Carey will have plenty of competition looking to push him off the pedestal but there’s no-one he should be more worried about than fellow Massachusetts native, Derek Gluchacki.
The young-gun from North Dartmouth has become the hottest thing in ACT Late Model racing since earning the 2020 ACT Rookie of the Year and he’s showing no signs of slowing. Gluchacki has taken down wins at Thompson Icebreaker weekend, the Northeast Classic at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and last Saturday’s Spring Board 100 at White Mountain.
When asked about how Saturday’s victory, Gluchacki responded “Having a win under our belt at White Mountain makes me feel more confident going into [the Spring Green]. With the tough competition on the ACT Tour combined with the weekly guys I think we have a really good car and hopefully we’ll be back in contention again on Saturday.”
Alongside defending Spring Green champion Tom Carey III and current ACT Late Model Tour points leader Derek Gluchacki, the full force of the ACT Late Model tour descends onto White Mountain Motorsports Park for the 47th running of the Spring Green 122 presented by Caron Fabrication on Saturday, June 11th. A full roster of Touring stars will include Granite Staters D.J. Shaw, Jimmy Renfrew Jr. and Top Rookie Jamie Swallow, Jr., Vermonter Stephen Donahue and Jonathan Bouvrette and Alexendre Tardif making the trip down from Canada.
A full card of White Mountain Motorsports Park Saturday night racing will also include the debut of the Ammonoosuc Asphalt Mini Late Models, the Wells River Chevrolet Flying Tigers, Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Strictly Stock Minis and Wayne’s Market Dwarf Cars. Full schedule is available at www.acttour.com/actusschedule with main gates opening at 3:00pm and Post Time set for 6:00pm. General Admission is set at $20 for Adults, $5 for 12 and under.
