Dawson Sutton Scores Stunning Father's Day 100 Win at Milwaukee

Dawson Sutton ended Ty Majeski’s unbeaten run in the state of Wisconsin with the ASA STARS National Tour on Sunday at The Milwaukee Mile.

Sutton took the lead from Majeski with four laps to go in the Father’s Day 100, scoring his first career Super Late Model victory.

The Lebanon, Tennessee driver also became the first driver other than Majeski to win in the Badger State during the first two seasons of the ASA STARS National Tour. Majeski won all three Wisconsin events in 2023, as well as Friday’s Capital 200 at Madison International Speedway.

“This Rackley team brought me a great car. I just can’t thank everybody enough that puts in the work and all the guys in the shop,” said Sutton. “They give us a great race car every weekend. This is the first Super win, so I’m super proud of it, guys. This is awesome.

“Honestly, the car just really came in there. We had a really good car all race, a good long-run car. We just kept it clean and got there at the end.”

Majeski appeared destined for yet another Wisconsin win. While he started eighth based on series’ owner points after qualifying was rained out Sunday morning, he took the lead from Casey Roderick on lap 16.

Majeski led from that point until a slip on lap 97 while under heavy pressure from Sutton.

“Obviously disappointed. It’s been a hell of a run to start this season," said Majeski. "First of all, huge congrats to Dawson Sutton and all the Rackley guys. They’ve got a good car.

“I got a little free at the end. I was working the cushion, working the very top. I got a little loose in and had to chase it above the cushion there in one and two. Obviously, he got around me.

“He probably would have had to rough me up to get around me if I didn’t make that mistake. Man, overall, a great race and great race car. I appreciate everyone on my team.”

Cole Butcher finished third, rebounding from a tough outing at Madison. In that race, Butcher crashed from the lead on lap 66, losing control in fluid from another race car.

The Wilson Motorsports team salvaged enough of the car on Friday for Butcher to score some necessary points after the accident, then prepared a car capable of finishing on the podium on Sunday.

“I’m just happy to finish," said Butcher. "The car’s in one piece. Congratulationss to Rackley W.A.R. and Dawson, they deserve this.

“My guys worked their butts off these past two days, and I cannot thank them enough for everything they’ve done for me at Wilson Motorsports. We’ll move on to Anderson and hopefully never, ever have a repeat of this weekend again.”

Casey Roderick entered Sunday's race at Milwaukee with a 24-point advantage over Butcher, and maintained most of that advantage with a fourth-place finish.

Roderick has three podium finishes in the first five races of the ASA STARS season, but hopes to find victory lane during the second half of the year.

“It’s a good points weekend for us," said Roderick. "We’ve just got to keep digging. We’ve got to get back to the shop and think about what’s going on, try to improve for the next couple of races coming up. We’ll be ready for the next one.”

The next event for the ASA STARS National Tour is on Saturday, July 20 at Anderson Speedway for the Redbud 400. That event falls on the eve of the return of the NASCAR Cup Series' Brickyard 400 to Indianapolis Motor Speedway, roughly an hour away from Anderson.
